河川・水文研究室所属 博士課程前期2年の熊谷拓時さんが、2025年9月から12月にかけて、ケンブリッジ大学（英国）に研究留学を実施しました。
滞在中は、ケンブリッジ大学工学系研究科内のCentre for Sustainable Developmentに所属し、IPCC第7次評価報告書（水分野）の統括執筆責任者を務めるEdoardo Borgomeo准教授の指導のもと、都市洪水および気候変動を対象とした研究活動に従事しました。
また、研究活動に加え、気候変動対策や水問題を中心とする持続可能性分野の専門講義も履修し、世界最高水準の研究潮流と最先端の学術知に触れることで、今後の研究活動に資する貴重な知見を得ました。
なお、本研究留学は、本学から初めての正規の研究留学となります。
Takuto Kumagae, a second-year master’s student in the Hydrological Laboratory, conducted a research visit to the University of Cambridge (UK) as a Visiting Research Student from September to December 2025.
During the visit, he was affiliated with the Centre for Sustainable Development within the Department of Engineering and engaged in research on urban flooding and climate change under the supervision of Associate Professor Edoardo Borgomeo, a Coordinating Lead Author of the IPCC Seventh Assessment Report (Water Chapter).
In addition to his research activities, he attended specialised lectures in the field of sustainability, with a particular focus on climate change mitigation and water-related issues. Through exposure to world-leading research trends and state-of-the-art academic knowledge, he gained valuable experience that will contribute to his future research activities.
He is the first visiting student officially recognized by the University of Cambridge from Tokyo Metropolitan University.
