Research Interests
In our laboratory, research targets are several characteristics of concrete, which is one of the main materials for constructions. In addition, the utilization of resources, taking into account environmental conservation and harmonization is also our important issue based on the social trend. The basic study on how to reuse slags, which is the industrial by-products from steel industry, as the alternatives for aggregates or cements, and the quality evaluation on the fly ash, generated from coal-fired power plants and used as the cement substitute are some of our efforts.
Furthermore, we are conducting the research on the Eco-cement including incinerated city wastes as a raw material. Now, the society is shifting to maintenance and sustainable systems. as long as we can. Evaluating various factors that effect on structure's durability are necessary for maintenance management for existing structures and rational planning on new constructions. Under these backgrounds, we are investigating evaluation methods for the durability on concrete in terms of cement chemistry and studying In addition, we are also studying on detection and evaluation methods for damage and defects in concrete by non-destructive evaluation techniques (NDT) such as impact elastic wave method and acoustic emission (AE).
