Guide to Research Fields/FIELD

Structure of 3 research groups in 10 fields

The Department of Urban Infrastructure and Environment consists of 3 research groups in 10 fields. The research activities of each field in this department so far are shown below.

Infrastructure Field

Fundamental research on planning, design, management, and operation of facilities, structures, and systems that serve as social infrastructure for urban life and economic activities; new technological development incorporating cutting-edge technology; We are working on how facilities and systems should be from the perspective of "people" related to ease of use.Education and research activities are carried out by two groups, which are broadly divided into approaches from the perspective of structure and design, and efforts from the perspective of planning and transportation.

Environmental System Field

When dealing with complex and variable problems in the urban environment, an approach that treats the subject as a system is useful. In this field, based on conventional sanitary engineering, hydraulics, hydrology, river engineering, and coastal engineering, urban water supply and sewerage, environmental system analysis, environmental impact assessment, water environment conservation, coexistence technology between nature and humans, We conduct education and research from a comprehensive perspective, setting the research themes of each faculty member as the construction of a sound water circulation system, fluid analysis, understanding of natural phenomena and disaster prevention in river basins and sea areas, and promotion of resource recycling.

Safety and Disaster Prevention Field

In order to ensure the safety of social life in regions and cities, it is important to build an urban disaster prevention system and to develop and operate appropriate facilities. In this field, elucidation of phenomena of natural disasters such as earthquakes, typhoons, and volcanic activities that occur in complex urban environments, risk assessment, construction of safety and disaster prevention systems, and rational design and construction of aboveground and underground structures. We conduct education and research on the establishment of technology, the development of maintenance and management technology as well as the improvement of durability performance, and the construction of disaster prevention information systems for damage prediction and countermeasure analysis.
